OUR STORY

Why the Elephant?

Life is like an elephant: it is beautiful and intimidating at the same time. And as the famous saying goes, the only way to eat an elephant is one small piece at a time...

The Goal:

The Elephant Journal is created with the aim to guide you towards managing your life, one small piece at a time, and ultimately becoming the best version of yourself. Why?

In theory:

Our theory of eating an elephant follows a step-by-step approach to project management and goal setting. Everything you do in life can be approached as a project: from running that first 10km to getting your home organized, and everything in between. To effectively manage any project you need a clear vision of what you hope to achieve, then set goals accordingly before planning and executing several tasks towards creating the desired end-product. Additionally, you would consider the timeline and cost of completing your project. All of these elements are accepted as pieces of the elephant - complete these smaller tasks continuously and you’ll soon find the whole animal eaten.

Envision

Always start with the end in mind. Only once you have a clear vision of what you hope to achieve, will you be able to identify the actions needed to get there.  The envision stage in the Elephant Journal will guide you towards visualising your ideal future for all aspects of your life through thought-provoking prompts.

Outline
With a clear vision in mind, your next step requires you to set measurable goals in place. A powerful approach to setting goals is to use the acronym SMART as a guideline: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound. You’ll find more information on SMART goals in the outline stage of the Elephant Journal.

Action

Only once you have your goals in place, can you put it into action. The Elephant Journal includes undated planner pages to keep track of the actions needed to achieve your goals. The "Month at a Glance" view includes several sections where upcoming deadlines and important to-dos can be recorded, while the weekly spread comes with loads of planning space that you can use as you prefer.

Monitor

Now that you’re slowly eating the elephant, it’s important to monitor your progress and refer back to your initial goals and deadlines regularly, and adapt where needed. The Elephant Journal includes several review prompts to keep you on track. You can also choose to join the Elephant Tribe for ongoing support and accountability if you are serious about achieving your goals.
